The administrator of At-Tilaawah Bit-Tarteel, Aneesa Bint Lewis, is currently offering online, Qur'aanic reading classes for Muslim women. Precedence is given to those who:
- Have little to no knowledge of the Arabic letters and symbols
- Have little to no knowledge of the rules of Qur'aanic recitation (Ahkaam at-Tajweed), including the proper articulation points (Makhaarij) and characteristics (Sifaat) of the Arabic letters
- Have knowledge of the above-mentioned, however, need assistance in perfecting their recitation of the Qur'aan
Classes focus specifically on reading and recitation, not on memorization, taking note that while memorization is undoubtedly important and carries with it a tremendous reward, one must first be able to read and recite the Qur'aan correctly, as indeed this will strengthen and make firm one's subsequent memorization of the Book of Allaah - Ta'aalaa.
Interested parties who are accepted for classes will be asked to provide a recording of their recitation of Soorat al-Faatihah and the last three Suwar (chapters) of the Qur'aan (i.e. an-Naas, al-Falaaq and al-Ikhlaas). For those who wish not to record their voices or do not have access to a recording device, a time will be arranged wherein they will be asked to recite live for the teacher. From this recitation, each individual will be assessed in:
- Arabic reading comprehension,
- Correct pronunciation of the Arabic letters, vowels and symbols, and
- The application of the rules of at-Tajweed.
Those who have little to no knowledge of the Arabic letters, vowels and symbols and/or are not able to read Arabic words, will just be asked to recite Soorat al-Faatihah.
Depending upon one's assessment, an individual will begin class:
- Starting with the book "Ma`allim al-Qiraa'at al-`Arabiyyah wa-l-Qur'aan (معلم القراءة العربية والقرآن)," which is a book based upon Al-Qaaidah Al-Baghdaadiyyah, and focuses on teaching basic Arabic letter, vowel and symbol recognition, as well as the proper pronunciation of said letters, vowels and symbols.
- Starting with the recitation of Soorat al-Faatihah and then preceding to the end of Juz' `Amma, working one's way to the beginning of the Juz'.
Once an individual begins recitation from the Mushaf, the class will cover three areas:
- Recitation
- Ahkaam at-Tajweed
- Tafseer
Class Platform:
Class Length:
2 days a week (Monday-Wednesday or Tuesday-Thursday), 30 minutes each day OR
1 day a week (Saturday or Sunday), 1 hour each day
*Due to limited time and wanting to spread the benefit as much as possible, as well as, based upon current and previous experience teaching and assessing student attendance, this amount of class time has been deemed sufficient.
Class Fee:
$40 per month (roughly $5 per class)
Note: Classes will not resume until the monthly class fee ($40) is paid in entirety. All subsequent class fees will be due in monthly increments from the first payment date (i.e. If an individual makes her first payment on March 1, the next payment would be due April 1, then May 1, etc.).
Attendance Policy:
A student is allowed to miss 1 class per month, with the understanding that in doing so, she will not be reimbursed for the day missed. Teacher may provide a make-up class depending upon her own availability. If a student misses more than 1 class in a month, she will be given 1 warning. If she misses another class after this within the same month (i.e. 2 classes total), she will be asked to forfeit her class spot and no refund will be given. This policy is being implemented in order to ensure that those who seek out the classes are serious and do not waste the time of the teacher, nor impede other sisters from having class who desire to do so but are not able to due to there not being any available slots.
Note: If teacher misses class, the student will either be offered a make-up class or will have $5 (per class missed by the teacher) taken off of the next month's class fee.
If at whatever time a student wishes to cancel her classes, she may do so and will be reimbursed for the amount of classes she paid for but was not provided with.
Payment:
Currently payment will be accepted via Paypal. Students will be requested to send payment to email address: at.tilaawah@gmail.com. InShaaAllaah, please make sure that when sending payment, you mark it as a "Gift" in order to not incur any additional fees.
Note: For those who do not have access to Paypal, other payment arrangements can possibly be made Bi'idhnillaah. When inquiring about class, please mention this in your inquiry InShaaAllaah. Baarak Allaahu Feekunna.
After reading all of the above, if you feel that you meet the criteria and are interested in class, please send a formal class request to at.tilaawah@gmail.com with the following information:

Baarak Allaahu Feekunna. We ask Allaah - Ta'aalaa - that He makes us of those who recite His Book with contemplation, reflection and understanding, who strive to give each letter its rights and who accept and believe in the Qur'aan in it's entirety, both those clear and unclear verses. And may He - Ta'aalaa - make us of those who implement His Commands, who abstain from His Prohibitions and who leave off that which is doubtful. And may He - Ta'aalaa - make us of those who are raised by way of His Book and make our recitation of it a proof for us and not against us. Allaahumma Aameen.
سبحانك
اللهم وبحمدك، أشهد أن لا إله إلا أنت،
أستغفرك وأتوب إليك.
